What will my Ancient Wonders Tour be like?

Stonehenge. This fascinating ancient site, created thousands of years ago still evokes mystery and intrigue today.  It’s a must see. A powerful testament to human ingenuity, imagination and creativity.

There is a way to see and enjoy it without the crowds with an optional 2 mile walk.  Many people do not know that Stonehenge is part of a much wider site. A place of ancient burial mounds and earthworks. We love Stonehenge and have been visiting it for over 30 years. Let us reveal to you the stories behind the stones.

You’ll combine your tour of the stones with a visit to Avebury stone circle, Silbury Hill, West Kennet Long Barrow and some historic and secret beautiful Wiltshire villages.

Included:- Pick up and return to Chippenham train station (for connections to London Paddington in 67 minutes), alternatively we can arrange pick up and drop off in London or your location,  a warm expert local guide, all entrance tickets, travel, a day’s private tour for your party, incorporating Stonehenge, Avebury hidden local villages and two pub lunches, accommodation overnight for one night.

Not included: – Your evening dinner and drinks on the night of your stay are at your discretion.

All of your entrance tickets for this tour are included in the price. There is no additional sum to pay.

Drive and Stroll combines scenic drives with a local at the wheel, with short, enjoyable strolls, typically 30 – 60 minutes in length. Thee short strolls are a wonderful opportunity to leave your vehicle and experience the best views, villages and market towns.

Refreshments and lunch are included in the price of your tour so you needn’t worry. On both days of this tour lunch is at a charming country pub, chosen by co-founders Alison and David Howell.

You’ll be staying at a handpicked character country inn. If you get in touch we will be pleased to send you a link to your accomomdation as well as information on availability and your bedroom options.

Itinerary

For guidance

Day One

9.45 am We’ll either meet and welcome you at Chippenham train station or have arranged a chauffeured car to collect you and drive you to Wiltshire.

10.20 am You’ll enjoy a scenic drive before arriving at an authentic and charming farm shop for morning coffee (included). Here you can relax, and we can finalise plans for your tour.

11.20 am Following a pretty drive through thatched villages and past a chalk white horse you’ll arrive at The West Kennet Long Barrow. Built in 3650 bc you can take a mile round stroll to walk inside and soak up centuries of history. We’ll also take a wonder to Silbury Hill, Europe’s largest artificial mound.

1 pm You’ll stop for lunch at a charming country pub (included)

2 pm Depart for Avebury where you can stroll among the ancient stones, take photographs and soak up the scenery.

4.30 pm Take a scenic drive via some wonderfully beautiful and hidden Wiltshire villages to reach your overnight stop at a country inn with comfortable bedrooms and excellent food.

5.30 pm Arrive

Day Two

Wake refreshed to enjoy a leisurely breakfast at your country inn.

9.30 am You’ll be personally met and welcomed by your driver guide.

Take a scenic drive through local Wiltshire villages to reach Stonehenge visitor centre

Head through gorgeous hidden Wiltshire villages with time to get out and stroll. Plenty of pretty thatched cottages and ancient churches that sit well off the beaten track and typical tourist trails.

12.30 pm Lunch at a country pub

With either an optional 2 mile walk we can walk to the stones at Stonehenge for a wonderful crowd free experience and spectacular views of the stones. Your guide will tell you the stories of the site. Just let us know if you prefer not to take this walk.

5 pm to 5.30 pm Drive back to Chippenham train station or to your accommodation, relaxed, with a head full of memories.
